|turbopunk||09:52 am - If not now, then when?|
The time has been flying by this year. It seems like only yesterday that I mentioned the gorillagator, a simple construct of confusion to try to draw attention to my message.
In reality, that message was sent over a month ago. During that time, the hours slipped to days and days to weeks. Many exciting things have happened to myself; I'm sure many exciting things have happened to you. I'm also sure that many terrifying things have happened to children and their families.
62 children enter treatment at a Children's Miracle Network Hospital every minute. That's nearly 60,000 children since I sent the last email. To put that number in perspective, that is more than the population of Greenland. If we expand that to the past year, they have been nearly 550,000 children treated. That is almost the population of Huntsville, Decatur, and all their suburbs combined.
Over the past 4 years, I have raised a little more than $3,000 for Children's Hospital of Alabama. As a result, I received a call from the organizers of Extra Life thanking me for my dedicated work and informing me that I was the top supporters for Children's Hospital of Alabama ... with my measly three grand.
We can do much better than that.
It may sound like I'm trying to have fun by playing games for 24 hours. It is more than that. It is me using my time and body as a catalyst. It is me putting my passion to work for a cause. It is me turning my love into something tangible.
I have been campaigning and fighting to give these children a chance for years. I have been asking you to help me support these children and families. I've been putting in countless hours of talking to people, impassioned emails, and carefully constructed tweets. I have been fighting with cutting edge, and sometimes expensive, technology to try to provide live streams of my marathons. I yearly put my body through 24 (and, this year, 25) hours of no sleep.
I do this to represent the countless hours these families sit awake at their children's side.
All I ask is a few minutes on a website and a few dollars. These few minutes and few dollars go a long way help people that are experiencing circumstances that only occur in our nightmares.
I also ask that you take one extra step. Forward this plea to those that you know. I can only reach a small fraction of a percentage of the people that may be able to help. Together, we can reach the world. I raise money for Children's Hospital of Alabama. As this message branches out, people may wish to support a hospital closer to their area. I have included a link to the list of people that have dedicated their time and have received no donations. Find someone on the list supporting your local hospital and give them a donation. Let them know that their time and effort are appreciated.
Together, we can do something great.
Together, we can make a difference.
Together, we all stand tall.

|turbopunk||08:35 am - Help Me Do Some Good!|
Ok, people it's crunch time. In less than 24 hours, I begin my epic journey towards enlightenment.
I know what you're saying. Big deal, you're just playing games for 24 hours. To which I say, yes. For 24 hours, straight...
I don't know how many of you have actually tried to do something for 24 hours straight, but let me tell you. ANYTHING for 24 hours straight becomes obstacle. I may just be playing Kinect Adventures at 4AM just to stay awake.
And nobody wants that...
So please, think of the children. I know if anything happened to my daughter, I'd wish for a miracle. Why not pad those odds now? Think of it like an indulgence, without the fall of the Catholic Church...
So please, find a little something and donate.
Tell your friends.
Tell your mama.
Tell your friend's mama.
Do the right thing.

|eruditeviking||01:55 pm - Jim Harris, Charger Athletics Director, dies of a heart attack.|
Fellow Chargers, some of you may have already heard, but many may not have. Jim Harris, our Athletics Director, passed away Saturday evening.
Heart attack claims the life of UAH Athletics Director
"According to the family, Harris will be returned home to Ohio where he will be memorialized sometime this week. A memorial service will be held for Harris in early January when the student athletes return from the holidays. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to UAH Athletics."
Harris' death a huge blow to UAH athletics

I posted an ad on Craigslist a couple of days ago, and yet said ad isn't showing up on the listings.(But, it will display with direct linking.) I hope this is okay to post, because I don't know what else to do. I really need to sell the phones that I have. Please, if you are in need of a new phone, take a look.

Due to the increased number of SPAM bots that are roaming LJ, I've temporarily changed membership to moderated. I'm tired of waking up every morning and having to delete inappropriate videos that have nothing to do with UAH. Posting access for existing members will remain unmoderated.

|eruditeviking||10:36 pm - Chargers win CHA's final championship!|
Folks, it's the honest truth, the UAH Chargers have won the CHA Championship and have secured an invitation to the 16 team NCAA tournament in Men's Ice Hockey. This is the Charger's second trip to the NCAA tourney, and first under Head Coach Danton Cole.
Freshman Keenan Desmet scored the overtime winner as the Chargers never trailed in a 3-2 victory on Niagara's home ice.
Bemidji State, our arch-rivals dating back to our days in Division II, tied Robert Morris in the consolation game and must now wait for selection as an at-large bid. Meanwhile this is likely to give the CHA two bids for the first time ever, and will likely be at the expense of a CCHA team that snubbed the Charger request to join their conference. Alaska and Northern Michigan are among those "on the bubble", while perennial power Michigan is still trying to play its way in at the expense of Michigan State. Our auto-bid just seriously hampered those efforts.

NCAA Hockey on CBSC: 2010 Season - CHA Championship
UAH edges RMU in a 1-0 shut out.
Niagara fells Bemidji State, 5-4.
Folks, we might be seeing TWO teams from the CHA's final season make it to the frozen ice of the NCAA tournament. #8 Bemidji State, even with the loss, is favored to be an at-large bid, and we still get one last automatic bid which will go to the winner of tomorrow's game.
The UAH Chargers were 3rd in the Conference with a record of 11-17-3 (6-10-2).
The Niagara Purple Eagles were 4th in the Conference with a record 12-19-4 (6-10-2).
UAH leads the season series 4-2 over Niagara, including a 3-2 overtime victory in their last meeting.

|eruditeviking||10:16 pm - Chargers roll to a third win... Talbot continues to shine.|
Another night and another win over Air Force! The Charger Blue swept the Falcons with consective 4 to 2 victories. The Chargers got the early lead, but Air Force came back to knot it up at 1 near the end of the 1st. The second saw the Falcons take their first lead of the season, 2-1, but the guys weren't having any of that! Lead by Tom Train's power play goal in the second period the chargers rallied scored 3 unanswered. Even a pulled goalie and a two chargers in the box couldn't ruffle the boys in blue, as they held off a late third period storm for the second night in a row.
The UAH follows their league sister, Bemidji, in sweeping Air Force. The two CHA members drove former league member Falcons, a pre-season favorite in the Atlantic Hockey Conference, to a dismal 0-4 record.
Huntsville returns home next week with a glowing 3-1 record, and it may be that they will be ranked by the time they host their home opener against Western Michigan on October 23rd.
Come out to the VBC on Friday and Saturday! Support the team!

|eruditeviking||10:15 pm - Friday Night Hockey!|
Last week saw a flurry of goals against the Chargers, more than 90 shots on Talbot earned him CHA Defensive Player of the Week as well as a split with then #5 powerhouse Notre Dame (3-2, 1-3). Not a bad start to the season!
This week has opened with another bang with UAH traveling to Airforce, our old nemesis from years past in the CHA. We jumped out to an early 2-0 lead on the Falcons. By the end of the second period our boys in blue chased their goalie, the score now 4-2. Talbot earned his keep as this was another dominant performance, particularly in a dicey third period where penalties and a pulled goalie gave the Falcons a long 6 on 4. Talbot slammed shut the gate and the Chargers have rolled to a 2-1 start to the season as pre-season #17 Airforce fell to a 0-3 start. Final score: UAH Chargers 4, AF Falcons 2.
We play at Airforce again tomorrow night, 8:05 central time. Don't forget that next week we're hosting CCHA opponent Western Michigan! Turn out and support out team! If you've never been to a hockey game, this is a great time to come out for the first time!
In the press the Chargers have been featured multiple times on the front page of USCHO, and have even gotten a couple of nods from Yahoo Sports writers.
